The 4th edition of the José Saramago Short Story Prize already has winners

The library of A Casa José Saramago hosted last Friday the award ceremony of the IV edition of the José Saramago Short Story Award. In this contest, organized by the IES de Tías, students enrolled in secondary schools in Lanzarote could participate. This edition has had four finalists in the category of those born before the year 2000 and another four in that of those born from the year 2001.

Thus, in that first category, Óliver Ayala Cabrera, from IES Tías, with the story "Angustia" (Anguish); Carolina López Calzado, also a student of IES Tías, with the story "Un mundo más allá" (A world beyond); María Teresa Parrilla Quevedo, also a student of that same center, for her stories "Mosquita muerta" (Dead Mosquito) and "Pistolas de agua" (Water Pistols); and Iria Simó Vázquez, a student of IES Yaiza, with the story "De polvo, sombras y estrellas" (Of dust, shadows and stars), were finalists.

The finalists in the category of the youngest were Lucía Díaz Bragado, from IES Tías, with the stories "Mi alambrada" (My Wire Fence) and "El poder del diccionario" (The Power of the Dictionary); Néstor García Martín, from IES Tías with the story "El planeta de la magia" (The Planet of Magic); Yaiza Llamas Ramos, from IES San Bartolomé with the story "La estación del desamparo" (The Station of Helplessness); and Leonor Martín Riudavets, from Colegio Arenas Internacional with the story "El libro del bunquer" (The Bunker Book).

In this School Narrative Award organized by the Department of Spanish Language and Literature of IES Tías, A casa, the AMPA of IES Tías and the City Council of Tías also collaborate. The award ceremony was attended by the mayor of the municipality, Francisco José Hernández; the Councilor for Education, Aroa Pérez, the director of A casa, Javier Pérez, representatives of the AMPA and the director of IES Tías, Félix González.
