The Arrecife House of Culture hosted this Thursday the presentation of the book "Miscellany on cemeteries of the Port of Arrecife", by the Director of the Municipal Archive of Arrecife, Benchomo Guadalupe, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the entry into service of the San Román municipal cemetery of Arrecife (1971-2021).
The book, which consists of 76 pages, collects a series of data that until now "are unknown to many", with texts that speak about the four cemeteries that have existed in the capital of the island. All this thanks to the research work carried out by Bechomo Guadalupe, with which the people of Arrecife have it much easier when it comes to knowing another part of the history of Arrecife sleeping in the dependencies of the Municipal Archive.
Councilor Saro González was "very satisfied" for having managed to carry out this book, which would culminate "part of the improvement works carried out in the current cemetery".
For his part, the author, Benchomo Guadalupe, made a broad and interesting historical exposition on the content of the book, where it is very well reflected how the first burials were carried out in the first installed cemetery, which was located very close to the first hermitage of San Ginés, next to the puddle that bears his name.
The presentation, which was very enjoyable, was extended with an open dialogue between the councilor, the director of the municipal archive and the attending public. The signing of the book put the finishing touch to the event.
