The César Manrique Foundation (FCM) is organizing the conference entitled "Creators in emergency. Recent generations of the Canary Islands facing uncertainty", directed by Mariano de Santa Ana, journalist and art historian, on February 18, 19 and 20, in the José Saramago room of La Plazuela (Arrecife). This activity, which will take place on all three days from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., is part of the program for the centenary of the birth of the artist, which the institution that bears his name will continue to celebrate until April 24, 2020.

The conference will bring together a total of 12 young people who, according to Mariano de Santa Ana, will "analyze how, from art to philosophy, cultural speculation, in all its creative manifestations, has, per se, a dimension of emergency, of confrontation with uncertainty, a condition that is accentuated in present times, in which it has become extremely difficult to project futures."

"However, just like youth, hope is inherent in art and thought, and even when enormous forces fight for complete control of individual consciousness, there is a resistant and utopian breath in creation," says the director of the conference. "When this creative impulse germinates in a geographical space such as the Canary Islands archipelago, distant from the poles that dictate the hegemonic cultural discourse, it can mitigate the noise of the world with surprising frequency," he adds.

Registration

Those interested in attending the conference, which has a limited number of places, must register by calling 928 84 31 38 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The registration period will open on Monday, February 10 and close on Friday, February 14 or when the capacity is full. Places will be awarded in strict order of registration.

The conference, which will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., will have a dynamic format of interventions lasting approximately 20 minutes. At the end of each session, there will be a round table between the participants of each day, moderated by the director of the conference.

Creators who will participate

In each of the sessions, four young creators from the Canary Islands who develop their activity in different disciplines will participate. Thus, on Tuesday 18, in the first session, Daniel Jordán (visual artist), Lena Peñate Spicer (visual artist), Cristina Maya León (architect) and Alba González (art critic) will participate.
