Presentation of the twelfth edition of the Lanzarote International Film Festival

The Lanzarote Film Festival will be present in five municipalities of the island: Arrecife, Tías, San Bartolomé, Teguise and Haría. In them, different films focused on fishing will be screened, which is the main theme of this 12th edition.

The selected films will show the importance that fishing has had and still has both in Lanzarote and in other parts of the world. And not only for economic reasons but also for political and identity reasons. The sessions will be free, although you have to get tickets through the Film Festival website.

The family sessions will be on November 26, 27 and December 3. Since fishing is the theme of the Exhibition, the puppet show will feature a worker from the Arrecife canneries and an old fisherman. Both will explain to the public who they are, what they do and what fishing meant for the island for many decades. Then 'The Old Man and the Sea' will be screened. The purpose of these presentations is to bring cinema closer to the youngest, some of whom may not have had the opportunity to attend a cinema yet.

The schedules and spaces for these family sessions are as follows: Saturday 26th, at 11.30 am at the La Tegala Sociocultural Centre, in Haría. On the same day there will be another session at 5.30 pm, at the Playa Honda Civic Centre, San Bartolomé. Sunday 27th will also be at 5.30 pm, at the Famara Teleclub, Teguise. And on Saturday 3rd December there will be morning sessions again: at 11.30 am, at the Ermita de San Antonio, in Tías.

In addition to the family sessions, between November 25 and December 2, the Exhibition takes the other films of its programme to Tías, La Graciosa, Haría and Teguise. The aim is for the Exhibition's cinema to be present in different locations and places on the island. In this way anyone can enjoy good cinema, regardless of where they live.

The times and venues for these sessions are as follows: 25 November, at 8 pm, at the Teatro Municipal de Tías, 'Luzzu' will be screened. On 29 November at 8 pm, in La Graciosa, in the Parish Hall, 'Alamar' will be screened. On 30 November, at 8 pm, in the La Tegala cultural centre in Haría, 'Tierra Firme' will be screened. On 2 December, at 8.30 pm in Teguise, in the Municipal Theatre, 'Capitanes Intrépidos' will be screened.

The 12th Lanzarote Film Festival is sponsored by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Art, Culture and Tourism Centres, Canary Islands Film, the Canary Islands Institute for Cultural Development, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts of Spain, among others. It also has the collaboration of other entities such as Geoparque Lanzarote and Archipiélago Chinijo, Televisión Canaria and the town councils of Haría, Teguise, Tías, San Bartolomé and Arrecife.
