The Arrecife City April Fair celebrated its third edition this weekend, and according to City Council data, it managed to bring together about 25,000 people between Friday and Saturday. The figure, provided by the City Council itself, reflects —according to its representatives— the consolidation of this event as one of the great festive and cultural bets of the capital of Lanzarote.
The event, promoted by the Department of Commerce and Tourism, attracted not only residents, but also visitors from other islands such as Tenerife and Fuerteventura, as well as from Andalusia, especially from Seville and Malaga, who planned their vacations to coincide with this popular celebration.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, valued the development of the fair as "a new success" and highlighted the high participation of both locals and the Andalusian community residing on the island. "This community, the second largest in Lanzarote, settled during the canning boom of the 60s and 70s and has continued to grow thanks to the drive of the hotel and hospitality sector," he recalled.
De León also stressed that this type of event reinforces the role of Arrecife as "a city that awakens and positions itself as the capital of leisure", mentioning that employment data in the last 20 months "support that rise".
The April Fair, organized in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park, is part of the revitalization strategy of the urban center led by the Councilor for Commerce and Tourism, Eli Merino. The opening, held on Friday afternoon, included a musical and visual montage that paid tribute to the seafaring and port past of Arrecife, highly applauded by the attendees.
Throughout the weekend, the park registered a large influx of public —according to the City Council— who enjoyed performances by artists such as María del Monte, Les Castizos, Tribute to the Rumba, Sentimiento con Arte, Pitingo and Raya, as well as equestrian exhibitions, gastronomy and family shows.
The City Council has highlighted not only the programming and atmosphere of the event, but also the civic behavior of the public and the security operation. The mayor congratulated the municipal team, the Local Police, Civil Protection and the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Kevin Cortés, for the coordination of a "participatory, safe and incident-free" event.
