The Teguise City Council, together with several cultural groups of the municipality, paid tribute last Thursday to the neighbor Federico Padrón Morales, in the convent of Santo Domingo. Since childhood, when he was guarding to take care of the goats, Padrón always had a small but sonorous instrument, the timple, as a companion.

He learned to play it from two great teachers of Teguise and thus, with the passage of time, he began to participate in the early 70s with the family of the Guanapay Folk Group, with whom he spent years touring many stages in Lanzarote and other islands.

Federico, when the Christmas festivities were approaching, also joined the family of the traditional Rancho de Pascua of Teguise, in order to be present at the solemn Midnight Mass and participate in the Ranchos meetings held in different towns of the island. The honoree has also been part of the family of the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Folk Group, where he has been participating until not so long ago, although for health reasons he is not currently practicing.

Federico is a very loved and respected neighbor by everyone who knows him. Always willing to collaborate so that the cultural tradition that Teguise has is not diminished. On the occasion of that delivery, his municipality wanted to recognize his work as a timplista, on the occasion of the festivities in honor of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

The mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, presented him with a commemorative plaque, in recognition to which the Guanapay families, Rancho de Pascuas de Teguise and Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe also joined. For her part, the Councilor for Culture and Festivities, Olivia Duque, presented him with a book with the Genealogy of the Padrón surname. Federico was very supported by his wife, Gloria Diaz, by his children and grandchildren, as well as many friends. They did not want to miss such an emotional day for him, where he also received a warm and sonorous applause from the audience.
