The Cabildo of Lanzarote has put on public display this Tuesday the procedure to declare an Asset of Cultural Interest the El Diablo restaurant in Timanfaya, La Casa Modernista in Famara and the Gran Meliá Salinas Hotel in Teguise, which has been published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC).

Both the Casa Modernista of Luis Ramírez in Caleta de Famara, and the El Diablo restaurant in the Timanfaya National Park seek to be declared as BIC in the Monument category. Meanwhile, the Gran Meliá Salinas Hotel in the Historical Garden category.

These three architectural elements were initiated by the previous CEO of Historical Heritage to be protected at the beginning of 2022. Thus, from this Tuesday the period of public information and hearing has been opened that may be consulted in the following twenty business days.

The work of César Manrique

Two of the elements that the Cabildo of Lanzarote seeks to protect are part of the work of César Manrique. This is the case of the El Diablo restaurant in the Timanfaya National Park that was created by the artist from Lanzarote and his usual collaborators Eduardo Cáceres, Jesús Soto and Luis Morales.

The interior and exterior gardens of the Gran Meliá Salinas Hotel are also part of Manrique's work. Meanwhile, the architectural part of the project was developed by the architect Fernando Higueras Díaz, and with José Ramón Álvarez as architect.

The Modernist House of Famara

Meanwhile, the Modernist House of Luis Ramírez has been classified by the report that seeks its protection as "one of the most unique buildings on the entire island, with a marked Art Nouveau imprint of Catalan style of the 20th century".

However, this property is in a state of conservation "quite deficient".
