The Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture surrendered to 'María Callas - 100 years of the woman, the diva, the myth', a work by the tenor from Lanzarote, Pancho Corujo. A concert that is part of the 'I Cycle of dramatized concerts, Between notes and words'.

Without a doubt, a great success of the Culture Department of the Arrecife City Council led by Councilor Abigail González. The stage space of the House of Culture, an impressive two-story building with acoustics that meets all the conditions for this genre of concerts, is the perfect example of the stately architecture that is still preserved in Arrecife. Once the early-rising public filled the allowed capacity in a few minutes, turning it into a unique place where there are no barriers between the artist and the public.

The staging of 'María Callas' had a cast of great professionals with surprising interpretive skills such as the actress Teresa Garzón, a narrator with a very studied role, exposing the other 'Callas', the desired and admired in front of the cameras and the empty and forgotten one offstage. She shared the stage with Marta de Andrés, the great soprano, playing the main role of the 'Callas', famous, the diva, the woman who reached the peak in her career. Marta de Andrés developed her role by putting passion into her voice, with registers that astonished the audience who did not stop applauding each of her compositions. De Andrés was accompanied on the piano by Professor Olga Nevalaine, an indisputable pianist caressing each of the piano keys.

'María Callas, One Hundred Years of the Woman, The Diva, The Myth' is a dramatized musical that captures the life of the most famous soprano of all time. Living for art, living for love. Overcoming cultural, social and gender barriers to pursue her passion and talent. An intimate show that shows us a vulnerable woman, harassed by the press and admirers, but also a capital artist, without limits and invincible. An artist who fought with all her might so that she would not be considered as an object within her profession, nor within love, much less in her life. In a world, that of opera, eminently masculine, she wanted to be a person free to say and express, in the search for equality and recognition. María Callas, despite her many successes as a singer around the world, had a tortuous sentimental life. She was not happy, as she had predicted many years ago: "Happiness is not for me." At the end of the concert, the audience stood up with loud applause, rewarding the work, without a doubt a luxury show for the capital of Lanzarote.

This cycle is a great success of the Department of Culture of the Arrecife City Council led by Councilor Abigail González. The stage space of the House of Culture, an impressive two-story building with acoustics that meets all the conditions for this genre of concerts, is the perfect example of the stately architecture that is still preserved in Arrecife.
