The Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin “Vinos de Lanzarote” celebrated last week the eighth edition of “Malvasía, Lanzarote Wine Week”, an event with which it was intended to honor the tradition and cultivation of the vine in Lanzarote, successfully capturing the attention and curiosity of citizens after carrying out several activities of great interest.

The day of tribute to Conejero wine began with a raffle held on the social networks of “Vinos de Lanzarote” on September 7, in which participating users had the possibility of winning a pack that included a t-shirt, a cloth bag and a sweatshirt designed by the local artist, Néstor Cubrelo, through his Hugu brand.

The following day, November 8, the “Enoartistic Workshop” was held, led by Rufina Santana, a prestigious painter. The artist surprised the attendees with her original proposal, where the wine was imagined and painted, on white canvases, while they tasted some references from Bodega Vulcano de Lanzarote.

There was also space for literature, on November 10, the line of the edition continued “Once upon a time there was a vine…” where the writer Lana Corujo gave a creative writing workshop, allowing attendees to intermingle literature and wine. In this way, they learned the different practices to create inspiring combinations of words that, in turn, were combined with the wines of Bodegas El Grifo.

With the arrival of the weekend, the outdoor activities arrived. On November 12, a walk was carried out through the emblematic landscape of La Geria and, after finishing the tour, the attendees were able to enjoy a visit to the Testeina Estate, of Bodegas Vega de Yuco, being accompanied by traditional Canarian music and a snack.

To conclude the week, and coinciding with Wine Tourism Day, on November 13 a bicycle route was carried out through the iconic atmosphere that runs through the surroundings of Bodega La Geria, upon arrival, a visit was made to the Winery itself and a tasting of its wines.

Lanzarote, nerve center of wine throughout Spain

Apart from these days dedicated to the sector, the island of Lanzarote also hosted the 30th General Assembly of the Spanish Confederation of Wine Regulatory Councils (CECRV), which took place on November 11, at Marina Innova HUB and was attended by 32 Regulatory Councils from the most important wine-growing areas in the country.

During the course of the Assembly, the focus was on the legislative reforms of the European Union that will affect essential aspects of the wine sector in the short and medium term. Thus, the EU institutions and the public administrations of our country are requested to have regulatory stability, consideration for the positive impact that the sector and the designations of origin have on the territory and attention to the needs and demands of the DOs of wine.

From the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin 'Vinos de Lanzarote' they wanted to "celebrate the participation and interest in the activities of the most special week for wine. The culture of the vine and its tradition must continue to live, and it is these tributes that make our history and belonging remain consolidated. We hope that toasting with Lanzarote Wines will continue in our custom for centuries".
