The family of the Güerma Folklore Group of Puerto del Carmen celebrated its III Folklore Festival last Saturday, an event framed within the festivities of San Pedro Apóstol in the town of Mácher.
The event began at 9:00 p.m. in the adjoining tent installed next to the Socio-Cultural Center of Mácher and featured for this edition a representation from Los Realejos on the island of Tenerife, the Echedey Valle Verde Folklore Group. A group that created a body of touch and dance in 2010 and currently has 46 members.
During these 14 years, they have managed to build a solid group with great projects and a great desire to share, rescue and disseminate our Canarian culture. The members of Echedey wore clothing inspired by the peasant costume of the late nineteenth century, early twentieth century, typical of the time.
In 2012 they created a recording project called 'Traditions' and since its birth has participated in folk festivals, Taifa and Candil dances, pilgrimages and television programs. Echedey shared with the audience the most representative of each of the Canary Islands as Malagueña de Tenerife, Polka de Fuerteventura, Seguidillas de La Gomera, Folías de La Palma among others. Echedey won the affection of the public with an impeccable performance for the colorfulness of its dances and very lively songs, all applauded by the attendees.
The second part of the festival was dedicated to the organizers and hosts, the 45 members integrated in the family of the Güerma Folklore Group of Puerto del Carmen. Group that is directed in the musical part by the professor Ivanhoe Rodríguez and presided over by Beatriz Tejera.
Güerma was born in early 2006 when this group of young people presented themselves at the municipal theater of Tías with this name unknown to many locals. Its name is a toponym of an area belonging to the municipality of Tías located between Puerto del Carmen and Mácher.
The Güerma family has dedicated many hours to rehearsals and organization so that nothing was missing when starting this third edition, with an impeccable staging, something that takes great care every time it is presented to the public. On this occasion, its members wore traditional clothing from Lanzarote corresponding to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, very laborious, almost entirely made on a loom.
The southern group chose a very varied selection also giving a nod to the folklore of the other islands such as El Pasacatre, Seguidillas and Saltonas, La vieja Farola or the Malagueña among others. Their dances are developed with a lot of rhythm in each of their choreographies and the colorfulness of their clothing makes them much more attractive. Their songs with voices of very consolidated soloists such as Gara, Israel, Ivanhoe, Carlos or Yanira among others, always achieve their objectives.
The audience enjoyed a night with Canarian music and dances in which Echedey de Los Realejos and Güerma de Puerto del Carmen gave everything with the commitment that Canarian traditions are not forgotten
