The chronicler Jos Hern ndez, known as "Pepito", will be appointed official chronicler of San Bartolom . This was announced on Thursday morning by the mayor of the municipality, Isidro P , during his speech on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero. Hern ndez, who was already named Memorialist of Lanzarote in the year 2016, will carry out a vital task to keep the history of the town alive.
The chronicler, who learned of the news this morning, comments that "it has been a surprise". "I am very happy to have served San Bartolom and that for this reason they are naming me chronicler," he says. "I thank the mayor for remembering me for such an important and responsible position," Hern ndez thanks.
And it is that Jos Hern ndez has written a lot about the municipality over the years and has always carried his town with him in conferences and seminars. "I have spoken about the importance of the mills, the Plaza Mayor, the parish and relevant figures such as mayors and teachers who marked an era," recalls the chronicler.
Initially, Hern ndez was an amateur who wrote because he liked it. His interest began to awaken while he became a member of the National Archive, where he had access to documents from Spain that allowed him to train. "In addition, for many years I have been a member of the Canario Museum and I would stop by to look for information and do work," he says.
