Associations, companies and events of the performing and visual arts, music, cinema, circus and literature of the island have joined in a platform to "join forces, exchange ideas and share resources" with the aim of "facing the health crisis and offering the population of Lanzarote and its visitors safe and quality cultural proposals".
So far, Actúa 7, Ars Magna, Arrecife en Vivo, Grupo DBS, Hoyo Sónico, Isla Literaria, Guayota, Lanzarote Film Festival, Palabras al Vuelo, Parto Cerebral, Sonidos Líquidos and Veintinueve Trece have joined this platform.
Over the last few weeks, and as a result of the crisis generated by Covid-19, the different cultural agents agreed to form working groups to support the cultural initiatives and events that will take place in the coming months.
These working groups seek to develop "innovative and original" proposals, from new formats for concerts and festivals, the creation of different lines of interaction with the public, to exhibition alternatives.
Another of the fundamental aspects in which the platform is working is the possibility of continuing to develop cultural projects in the public space, "rigorously guaranteeing the regulations in force at all times and thus preventing all cultural events from being limited to the digital space".
Likewise, and "aware of the complicated social situation we are going through in the Canary Islands", the platform is debating the possibility of allocating a percentage of the proceeds from the different events to social issues.
"It is vitally important that the cultural sector continues to operate"
"Lanzarote is characterised as an island that intensely experiences culture. Several associations have grown in the last decade, strengthening their connection with the social context. At the same time, numerous independent projects have evolved to become cultural references at a national and international level", say the platform, from where they consider that "it is vitally important that the cultural sector continues to operate in these times of uncertainty, since during confinement it played a fundamental role in coping with isolation".
"Once again, culture demonstrated its commitment to society in times of difficulty", add this cultural platform, from where they point out that among the numerous altruistic actions that were carried out online for months, theatre and circus plays, exhibitions, release of films and books, free concerts, film festivals, sale and auction of works of art for charitable purposes "and an countless number of initiatives" stood out.
