The Arrecife City Council will kick off this Friday a week of youth activities organized on the occasion of the first anniversary of the reopening of the Youth House, which took place on March 20, 2015. Among these activities, organized through the Department of Youth led by Jacobo Lemes, there will be different events "for the whole family", such as workshops, concerts and various cultural, sports and leisure activities.

This program of activities will take place until March 23. Among these, there will be some that are repeated every day, such as the stage and setting workshops, collectible card games, online role-playing and board games, or the role-playing and board game days; and others that will alternate, such as radio, comic, robotics and how to create a Youth Association workshops. "This last activity is highly demanded by the young people themselves," says Lemes.

The program also includes sports exhibitions, concerts, contests, screenings, video game tournaments, round tables, book presentations ('The Labyrinth', by Miguel Aguerralde, 'Chronicles of a Hidden History', by Rocío Yurena Aguilar), record presentations ('Looking for Connection', by Emisora Clandestina), and even the live broadcast from the assembly hall of the Youth House of two radio programs.

According to the Councilor for Youth, Jacobo Lemes, "we will also have a very emotional event that I am sure will be to everyone's liking: the meeting of former users of the Youth House and Radio 86 and another very novel one, the presentation of the Arrecife Youth Awards 2016. These awards will be launched so that, through a contest, youth associations and groups can make the ideas they propose a reality."

"Get Rolling Arrecife 2016"

On the other hand, the City Council highlights an activity that "deserves special attention" within the program of events organized on the occasion of the first anniversary of the reopening of the Youth House. This is the express filming contest "Get Rolling Arrecife", which celebrates its second edition between March 18 and 20.

As Lemes has stressed, "the prospects for this year are as good as those of the last edition. Almost 1,300 euros will be distributed in prizes, and, with 10 days to go before filming begins, some 30 registrations have already been confirmed, including that of some of the best Canarian filmmakers."

This contest consists of creating, filming and editing a short film in an express way in a weekend, with filming valid from 00.00 on the 18th and with a delivery time of 12.00 on Sunday the 20th. The short films cannot last more than 5 minutes, credits included, and must be filmed compulsorily in the city of Arrecife.

To participate, you must register in advance via email [email protected]. On the 17th there will be a preliminary meeting with all participants.
