Next Friday, April 21 at 8:00 p.m., the third historical novel by the Lanzarote author, José Luis García Pérez, will be presented at the Club Náutico of Arrecife. The novel will also be presented at the Sociedad Democracia on April 26 at 8:30 p.m. and at the Yaiza Island Book Fair on April 28 at 6:00 p.m.
With this story, the author fully enters a historical fiction of emigrants to the American continent, which inevitably leads him to cross the Atlantic with his pen, the publisher comments. He wants to pay tribute to all those Canary Islanders who embarked on the difficult adventure of leaving their homes and crossing the pond in search of a better life, thus contributing to the history of Hispanic America and even the United States itself, they say.
The work reveals an exciting odyssey of a group of Canarian families, most of whom were from Lanzarote, who arrived in the New World in the 18th century with the illusion of founding a town in Texas. The story extends from the Canary Islands, through the transoceanic adventure and, above all, reflecting the vicissitudes of a difficult journey in the immensity of the lands of North America, they report.
"Simple men and women, who only possessed as baggage for such a difficult challenge, a common destiny"
The protagonists are "simple men and women, who only possessed as baggage for such a difficult challenge, a common destiny", the author comments. "When a novel is narrated with passion and the meticulousness of handling a precious documentation, we can usually expect a highly desirable result", they admit from the publisher.
García Pérez's success lies in making ordinary people the protagonists of his story, who were simply looking for a path in life, the house acknowledges.
