The commissioner of the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF) of the Canary Islands, José Ramón Barrera, and the Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the regional government, Poli Suárez, have launched the first training on the island charter, aimed at 30,000 teachers of Primary, Secondary, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training from public centers in the archipelago.
This activity initiates the ambitious project that Barrera and Suárez committed to developing during this legislature so that students of all educational levels know the unique tax and economic framework that the islands have had for five centuries.
“The REF is not just a tax system; it is a key to understanding the past, present and future of our archipelago”, details the commissioner, aware that “it is essential to give teachers tools to transmit this knowledge and ensure that students understand its importance in making the Canary Islands a competitive territory on equal terms with the rest of the country and Europe”.
The content of the activity is structured in four modules, with which participants will be able to acquire a deep knowledge about the origin and specificities of the current regime of the Canary Islands and learn to transmit it in their classes in a clear and effective way.
This first REF course is aimed at teachers of all educational stages. Registration is open on the platform of the teacher training service, accessible from the website of the ministry.
It will remain available in the catalog of self-directed courses, within the theme «Education and Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands», and will allow to certify 15 training hours, which must be completed before April 30. The next call will open between May 1 and June 30, and will be reissued bimonthly during each academic year.
