Visitors to the Volcano Route will enjoy a new fleet of six hybrid buses within six weeks. This was announced by the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism (CACT) in a statement. With these six new buses, the Tourist Centers will be able to replace the four that have been operating for an average of 15 years.
The CEO of the Tourist Centers, Benjamín Perdomo, has met with the managers of the Mercedes plant in Turkey. The objective of this visit was to learn about the progress of the assembly process of the six buses with which the visitor transport fleet for the Volcano Route, in the Fire Mountains, will be increased.
Perdomo took advantage of the visit to access the interior of some vehicles and find out what the delivery times will be. "They will surprise with their designs and features," said the CEO of the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism (CACT).
During the meeting, Perdomo asked the representatives of the German firm to send the vehicles from France directly to Lanzarote. The objective is to "prevent them from having to cross the entire Iberian Peninsula and wait in Cádiz until they are shipped to the island, which saves time and money," the Centers explained in a statement. Mercedes usually sends its buses from Turkey to France, from where they are diverted to their final destination.
As will be recalled, the Tourist Centers awarded the company EvoBus Ibérica the contract for the supply of six buses with hybrid technology for passenger transport on the Volcano Route. The maximum budget for this acquisition amounted to 1,800,000 euros from the items of the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).

"EvoBus's proposal was the most competitive, from an economic and solvent point of view. In addition, from a technical point of view, with a package of six new buses with Mercedes engine and bodywork. Two of them are also adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility," the note reported.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and of the Board of Directors of the Tourist Centers, María Dolores Corujo, has stated that these new buses will "allow the Entity to take a qualitative and quantitative leap, offering a more modern, safe and sustainable service, adapted to the needs and expectations of the thousands of people who want to fully enjoy the experience of the Fire Mountains."
