The employers are concerned about the low occupancy in Lanzarote in the early stages of summer. “We thought that in July we were going to have some data that was at least intermediate, between what was a record 2023 and the data from 2019, but with our forecasts for the first days of the month,  we'll see if we even manage to exceed 80%”, explained Susana Pérez in an interview with Radio Lanzarote.

Pérez, who has just been re-elected as head of the Lanzarote Tourism Federation, revealed that her forecasts for the beginning of the month for July did not reach 80% occupancy.

The president of the Tourism Federation hopes that the second half of July will push the occupancy data upwards.  “It will grow, but we don't know if it will reach the occupancy of last year. We hope to at least reach 82%”. Last year 86% was reached.

Among the possible causes of this decrease, Pérez highlights several conjunctural events that have occurred this month, such as the European Championship, for which “many European clients have chosen, among other destinations, to go to Germany and enjoy this sporting event”.

“In the next few days, the Olympic Games in Paris, in continental territory, will also be inaugurated, and for many potential travelers this is a very attractive offer”, adds Pérez.

In the specific case of the British market, the president of the employers explains that “they have just come out of an electoral process that always creates uncertainty. Once the process was over, it was seen that reservations from this market have been reactivated a little”.
