The figures for North American tourist arrivals to Lanzarote, specifically from the United States and Canada, are still small, but they are increasing every year and could increase further, given that Turismo de Canarias plans to promote more air routes from these markets.
Between January and August, nearly 5,000 North American tourists arrived in Lanzarote, specifically 4,806 people from the United States and Canada, which represents an increase of 17.3% compared to the same months of last year, when there were 3,971 people, according to data from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
Turismo de Canarias has been this week at the most important international meeting of the airline industry in the world, Routes World, in which it has held meetings with airlines such as American Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Delta Air Lines and Air Transit.
The managing director of Turismo de Islas Canarias, José Juan Lorenzo, has valued "very positively" the interest of North American companies in assessing the viability of establishing routes with the archipelago, especially in the winter season.
Among the North Americans arriving in Lanzarote this year, the largest growth has occurred among Canadians, who with 1,135 arrivals to the island have increased this year by 34% compared to 2022, when there were 745 people.
The arrivals of Americans to Lanzarote, 3,671 people between January and August, have increased by 12% compared to 2022, which registered 3,226 arrivals from the United States.
In all of the Canary Islands, North American visitors, according to Istac data, totaled 36,913 from January to August of this year, 26% more than in the same period of 2022. As for visitors from Canada, these also grew by 45% between January and August of this year compared to the same months of the previous year, from 5,124 Canadians to 7,442.
