The total revenue of hotels and tourist apartments in Lanzarote amounted this July to 70,586,138 euros, more than triple the amount collected in the same period of the previous year, but also above the data prior to the pandemic. Compared to the same month of 2019, the increase has been more than 3 million euros.
This figure has been reached thanks to the increase in prices, since the number of tourists was still slightly lower than three years ago. Specifically, last month 254,500 tourists stayed on the island, compared to 283,674 in July 2019.
However, then the average price per night was 92 euros, and now it has risen to 107, which has increased revenue. In the case of hotel establishments, the average last month was 120.85 euros per night, and in extra-hotel accommodation it was 72.53.
Regarding the total number of overnight stays, last month was 1,640,000, still far from the almost two million reached in July 2019. And it is that in addition to registering about 30,000 fewer tourists, the average stay per traveler was also lower. Last month it stood at 7.72 days, above the figure for 2021, but below the same period in 2019, when it amounted to 8.36 days per person.
What has exceeded the records of 2019 for the first time, in addition to income, has been the monthly tourist occupancy rate. Last month it reached an average of 83.34%, while in the same period of 2019 only 80% of hotel and extra-hotel places were occupied.
The explanation is that although there have been fewer tourists, the number of open establishments is also lower. In July 2019 there were 261 (76 hotels and 185 extra-hotels), and last month 185 (72 hotels and 113 extra-hotels).
