The Lanzarote-based Group Cabrera Medina has joined the Sustainability and Decarbonization Cluster of the Canary Islands tourism sector, managed by the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa in collaboration with the World Economic Forum.
Cabrera Medina is one of the most relevant players in the tourism industry in the Canary Islands and one of the main car rental service providers in the archipelago. Mamerto Cabrera, its CEO, has sealed an adhesion agreement with José Valle, president of the Chamber, and Marcos Cohen, director at PwC Spain.
The objective is to work together on the development and implementation of its Net – Zero decarbonization strategy for the next four years.
The top managers of the business group, the president of the Lanzarote businessmen and the heads of the Energy, Sustainability and Public Sector area of PwC Spain attended the signing, establishing the bases and work actions on which the Cabrera Medina Group will develop and implement its decarbonization strategy in the Canary Islands.
Within the framework of the adhesion agreement, two lines of action are established that contribute directly to the decarbonization of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. A first line focused on the decarbonization of the business group itself and another focused on collaboration with the rest of the business fabric of the region and public institutions to reach emissions.
In this sense, Mamerto Cabrera, CEO of the Cabrera Medina Group, pointed out that "this adhesion agreement is a great step for the organization, which aligns perfectly with the future we want for our companies, for our island and for the Canary Islands. It is an honor to be the first company to join this initiative and serve as an example and lever so that both companies and public institutions coordinate and work together for the future of our island."
On the other hand, José Valle pointed out: "It is a pride that the Cabrera Medina Group, one of the references in Spain in the field of tourism, has joined this initiative and, in addition, has been the first organization to do so. I am sure that many other companies will follow this example.
Valle highlighted that the Canary Islands Sustainability and Decarbonization Cluster is the only one in the World Economic Forum network that addresses the challenge of decarbonization from the field of tourism. "I am sure," Valle remarked, "that the Cabrera Medina Group will have a lot to contribute in knowledge and experience. And not only to the Canary Islands companies, but to the rest of the members of the global network of the World Economic Forum."
