Arrecife receives the innovation award as an Intelligent Tourist Destination at Fitur

Last 2024, the capital City Council created the application 'Arrecife on tour', a tourist guide so that visitors could directly get to know the entire municipality

The Secretary of State for Tourism, through SEGITTUR (State Mercantile Society for the Management of Innovation and Tourism Technologies), has granted the Arrecife City Council the Intelligent Tourist Destination seal for accrediting that the capital, like other destinations, has promoted its digital transformation. This badge also aims to project sustainable urban development for tourism and residents and "support the good assessment and satisfaction of tourists, which will revert to more income for the local economy, which generates employment where residents work."

The council has assured in a press release that Arrecife, throughout 2024, has promoted an "innovative tourist guide that allows, from QR codes, to know all the tourist offer of the city, its beaches, castles, open commercial areas, cultural, gastronomic and leisure activities, among others.

The Department of Commerce and Tourism, led by the councilor Eli Merino Betancort, premiered this tourist guide last 2024 so that tourists can directly get to know the entire capital of Lanzarote. The guide was presented at the International Tourism Fair, in Madrid, by the mayor of the city and the Councilor for Tourism, Eli Merino. A guide that has been available to the more than 610,000 cruise passengers who visited Arrecife during the past year.

Through QR codes, visitors who arrive on the island can directly access this guide where a narrator details, in several languages, the entire history of the capital, its tourist attractions, its commercial and leisure offer, and the places destined for culture. In addition, it covers the municipality of Arrecife, including the offer of the neighborhoods in addition to the downtown area.

The city commemorated last year the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife and with the online guide Arrecife on Tour the promotional tool was created with the use of new technologies, which had a great journey during 2024.

 

Segittur certifies the Arrecife City Council's commitment to innovation in tourism

The mayor Yonathan de León, and Councilor for Tourism, Eli Merino, received this seal from Seguittur, chaired by Enrique Martínez, at the Canary Islands stand in Madrid, during the recent International Tourism Fair (Fitur). The vice president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, and CEO of Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, were also present at this event.

SEGITTUR analyzed the Arrecife candidacy, with a project presented from the Department led by Councilor Eli Merino, proceeded to complete the self-diagnosis of this municipality, which completed the adhesion phase.

With this, Segittur has prepared a report and communicated to the Arrecife City Council the granting of the accreditation certificate, which they have collected in Madrid, within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR).

The Intelligent Tourist Destinations project, promoted by the Secretary of State for Tourism, aims to activate the impulse and promotion of the digital transformation of destinations and tourist areas of Spain. population.

At SEGITTUR they work for a tourism development model based on the concepts of governance, innovation, technology, sustainability and accessibility, to which Arrecife joins with which to guarantee the present and the future of tourism and residents, where in recent times the Municipal Government led by Yonathan de León, promotes the modernization of the urban image of the neighborhoods and the center of the capital, creation of new pedestrian walkways along the sea, increase the accessibility of squares and streets, and increase public services in all the beaches of this city. Arrecife has a blue flag in El Reducto and plans the creation of a second beach with this environmental award.

Intelligent Tourist Destination, granted by the Secretary of State for Tourism, has international recognition from organizations and institutions as relevant as the UNWTO, the OECD, the IDB or the WTTC.

This seal, which emerged from the National and Comprehensive Tourism Plan, generates the appropriate mechanisms to facilitate the rapid incorporation of innovations in destinations. The Intelligent Tourist Destination is defined as an innovative tourist destination, consolidated on a state-of-the-art technological infrastructure, which guarantees the sustainable development of the tourist territory, accessible to all, facilitating the interaction and integration of the visitor with the environment and increasing the quality of their experience in the destination and the improvement of the quality of life of the resident.
