The Council of Ministers will study this Tuesday a report to modify the law that allows obtaining a residence visa for those who invest in housing in Spain.
"We are going to eliminate the granting of the Golden Visa that allows access to the residence regime when more than 500,000 euros are invested in real estate" and "we are going to take the necessary measures to guarantee that housing is a right and not a mere speculative business", the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has guaranteed.
"That is not the model of country we want, it is not the Spain we want, that of speculative investment in housing," he stressed. "All administrations, without exception, should be clear about this" and "be aligned on an objective that the vast majority of society shares, vote for whoever they vote for and think as they think: that having decent housing cannot depend solely on the rules of the market," the head of the Executive stressed.
"Red carpet for those who come to Spain to create employment, to invest in innovation, to boost our productive fabric, and not for those who simply seek to speculate with an asset such as housing," he defended.
Almost 3.5 billion euros for housing
The President of the Government has highlighted the commitment of his Executive to housing with "a historic allocation for housing in the last budgets, which multiplies by seven the amount inherited in 2018 from the previous government, going from 473 million to 3,472 million" last year.
The first Housing Law of democracy was approved in the last legislature. In addition, the construction of affordable housing was promoted, "using all the capacities and all the resources of the State," Pedro Sánchez stressed. And, among other measures, there is a new Housing Plan 2022-2025.
In this legislature, the Government has approved the granting of guarantees for the purchase of the first home to young people under 35 years of age and to families with dependent children; as well as the Reference Price Index, to offer transparency and knowledge of the market, control the increase in rental prices in stressed areas and avoid speculation in the rental market.
Our goal is clear: we are going to comply with the Constitution guaranteeing the right of all to decent housing," he assured. "The Government's commitment is to make that constitutional right effective" and he is convinced that "this will be the legislature that turns housing into the fifth pillar of the welfare state."
