Canary Islands continues to lead home sales in Spain

In March, the number of properties transferred registered in the land registries per 100,000 inhabitants increased by 9.1% in the Canary Islands in annual rate, while the registered home sales grew by 15.9% compared to 2022 and reached 2,734 operations.

The trend observed in 2022 continues when the Canary Islands experienced the largest increase in home sales in the country, specifically 31.6%, more than double the national average.

These provisional data from the Property Rights Transfer Statistics, released this Thursday by the INE, place the Canary Islands as the autonomous community that led home sales during the third month of the current year.

Of the 3,985 homes transferred in the islands last month, 2,734 were through sales, 118 through donations, 7 through exchanges, 583 through inheritances, and 543 through other concepts.

Of the 2,734 homes bought or sold, 2,620 were unrestricted, 114 were subsidized, 662 were new, and 2,072 were used.

Back in 2022, the Canary Islands was the autonomous community that experienced the largest increase in home sales, it was 31.6%, while in the country as a whole it increased by 14.7%.

After the Canary Islands, the largest increases in 2022 occurred in the Balearic Islands (25.6%) and the Valencian Community (23.9%), and the highest number of transactions occurred in Andalusia (135,976), ahead of Catalonia (102,108).
