The 2024 harvest of the Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) Wines of Lanzarote began last July 4th, as announced by its Regulatory Council.
It is expected to be a scarce harvest, which may not reach two million kilos, in line with what was recorded in 2022 and in contrast to the 3.2 million kilos that were collected last year.
The secretary of the Regulatory Council, Nereida Pérez, has pointed out that "this year the harvest is marked by irregular budding, which has caused different periods of maturation. The total figure may be affected, but we hope to reach two million kilos of grapes.”
The first grapes of the DOP will be processed by their respective wineries. This starting point gives rise to a staggered start sequence in which the island's wineries will use all their efforts to guarantee an optimal harvest that will last until September.
This start to the harvest season is being carried out with full collaboration between winegrowers and winemakers, reaffirming the commitment of Lanzarote's wineries to the production of high-quality wines and the preservation of their wine-making traditions.
