After a notable decrease in August, the unemployment figures in Lanzarote remain stable in September with a minimum decrease of four fewer people looking for work compared to the previous month.
Unemployment fell last month by 0.04% in Lanzarote, therefore it continues to fall, although very slightly, since in August the fall was 0.7%. Now, the number of unemployed registered on the island stands at 9,607 people.
Despite the timid decrease, this is the best data so far this year, and also improves the pre-pandemic figures when September registered 10,920 unemployed.
However, the decreases in the last two months are well below those that had been recorded until June, when the monthly falls were above 2%; reaching up to 5% in February. July was the only month so far this year in which unemployment grew, when it did so by 0.7%.
Last year in September there were 12,903 unemployed people in Lanzarote, so the figures for this month represent 25.5% fewer unemployed compared to the same period last year.
Throughout the Canary archipelago there has been a decrease in unemployment in September of 0.9%, which puts the number of unemployed in the autonomous community at 188,661 people, which is 1,628 less than the previous month.
Unemployment grows in Arrecife, Yaiza, Haría and Tías
However, there are more municipalities where unemployment increases in September than those in which it decreases. Unemployment has increased especially in Yaiza, where it rises by 4.7% and adds 33 more unemployed. In Haría it rises by 2.2%, so it has 8 more unemployed. Tías experiences an increase in unemployment of 1.3% and adds 13 more unemployed.
Unemployment also rises by 0.9% in September in the capital of the island, which means 43 more unemployed than the previous month. With this increase, the number of unemployed in Arrecife stands at 4,961 people, more than half of the total in Lanzarote.
Unemployment falls especially in Teguise, which with a decrease of 5.9% has 65 fewer unemployed. It also fell in Tinajo by 3.5%, which means 14 fewer unemployed and in San Bartolomé, which with a decrease of 2% has 22 fewer unemployed than in the previous month.
