The unemployment rate in Lanzarote has fallen by 1.9% in April, which is equivalent to 172 fewer people in unemployment, according to the Canary Islands Employment Observatory (OBECAN), published this Thursday.
With this data, the number of unemployed on the island currently amounts to 8,834 people, 15.1% less than there were a year ago, when there were 10,203 unemployed in Lanzarote.
By sex, the majority of people in unemployment on the island are women, representing 57.75% of the total. Regarding the level of education, the vast majority of the unemployed, 60.8%, only have primary education. Regarding unemployment according to age group, almost 60% are over 45 years old.
Canary Islands and provincial data
In the whole of the Canary Islands, unemployment fell in April by 3,699 people, 2.02%, while the annual decrease stands at 9.69%, since compared to the same month of 2022 the islands have 19,289 fewer unemployed, according to data released this Thursday by the Ministry of Labor.
In the province of Las Palmas, this indicator fell by 1.60%, with 1,515 fewer unemployed, and 9.35% in interannual terms (with 9,609 fewer unemployed).
The province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, meanwhile, recorded a decrease of 2.46%, which is equivalent to 2,184 less than in March, in interannual terms the decrease is 10.06%, with 9,682 fewer unemployed.
