Only 34% of management positions in Lanzarote companies are held by women, according to the latest report on Women Entrepreneurs in Lanzarote and La Graciosa recently published by the island's Council.
However, the figure is seven points higher than that recorded in the last measurement dating from 2011.
The management occupations of women are mostly (91%) linked to the services sector, which represents 88% of the total employed population in Lanzarote.
64% of managers have higher university education, and 29% were born abroad.
Professionals and self-employed
On the other hand, when looking at the data for the next job category: professionals and technicians in Lanzarote, the percentage of women rises to 62% and has remained stable compared to 2011.
These are occupations linked almost entirely to the services sector, and with a professional situation of employment as an employee (87%). Almost all (92%) of the female professionals have university studies and 15% were born abroad.
16% of the people affiliated to Social Security in Lanzarote do so on their own account, 39% of them are women.
These self-employed women stand out in social services activities, the textile industry, clothing manufacturing, the leather and footwear industry, research and development, education and health.
