The island of Lanzarote continues to improve its year-on-year unemployment figures, starting 2023 with 9,327 unemployed, which is 2,336 less than in January 2022, when the number of unemployed stood at 11,663.

During the first month of the year, hiring on the island has increased, with an increase of 4.4% compared to December and 183 more contracts. Compared to January 2022, the increase is 19.75%.

The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, highlights that "the trend in Lanzarote is very positive, which is a reflection of the good management and commitment of the Cabildo in labor matters."

Corujo points out that "thanks to the political stability of the island and the collaboration policies with all economic sectors, Lanzarote has boosted economic activity, thus allowing the creation of employment and improvement in all business areas."

However, this good trend has not prevented the end of the Christmas campaign in January from leaving 390 more unemployed than in December 2022. A common provision that occurs in a generalized way in the first month of the year.

This is the first time that an increase in unemployed has been recorded since last July 2022 and the second time that the number of unemployed has increased compared to the previous month since April 2021.

Throughout the current legislature, the evolution of unemployment figures in Lanzarote has maintained a positive trend, reducing by 1,754 the number of people who are unemployed.
