The Canary labor market is experiencing a decreasing unemployment rate and a notable increase in employment. However, companies in the archipelago have been experiencing a problem for years that is becoming increasingly acute: the lack of certain profiles that they need to fill.

According to the latest Infoempleo Adecco report, 44.8% of the businessmen and managers consulted believe that this talent shortage is due to the lack of profiles that match the positions that really need to be filled, while another 35% speak of a lack of adequate training.

According to the temporary employment company, in the Canary Islands archipelago there are six sectors that currently have positions that are difficult to fill.

In the hospitality and tourism sector, the Canary Islands mainly need waiters, room attendants, and kitchen helpers, although any type of profile within the sector can easily find a job in the regional labor market, especially if the candidate has knowledge of languages.

Another sector that employs a large active population and is a pillar of the Canary economy is the food sector. For this industry, food handlers and porters are frequently sought.

The agricultural sector, which in the Canary Islands employs more than 26,000 people, is another industry that continuously demands positions. The most requested are packers and tray labelers.

When talking about a shortage of talent in the industrial sector, there are several profiles that stand out above the rest, almost regardless of the branch of industrial activity we look at: industrial cleaning staff and, above all, electromechanical technicians.

The logistics, transport, and airport sector - strategic for the islands - is also looking for positions to fill in the Canary Islands. Here, handling staff, drivers, C drivers with CAP and tachograph, and porters are especially in demand.

Finally, the distribution and retail sector is demanding shop assistants. These professions have a higher demand than supply, so they are always highly sought-after positions in the Canary Islands archipelago.
