Lanzarote cheeses continue to reap successes outside the Islands. Specifically, the cured Guatisea, from Montaña Blanca, won the recognition as the best cured goat cheese in Spain in the Spanish GourmetQuesos Best Cheese Championship, held yesterday Monday in Madrid.
For its part, the semi-cured young goat Guatisea won the bronze medal, while the Selectum cured paprika, from the Grupo Ganaderos de Fuerteventura, obtained third place in the mixed category.
The cheeses of Fuerteventura also triumphed in the competition, obtaining the award for the best young goat cheese in Spain with the cheese from Julián Díaz, from the Arquema-DOP Majorero brand.
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alicia Vanoostende, has highlighted the potential of the cheeses of the islands and the importance of a cheese sector "that has been specializing and growing to reach extraordinary levels of quality".
The Canary Islands had been a finalist in 6 of the 15 categories, with a total of 10 samples. However, the award-winning cheeses will have to wait until next Thursday to find out which is the Best Cheese in Spain.
In this sense, the regional head of the area "recognized the work of the rest of the Canarian productions that presented their cheeses in an event that projects the enormous potential of the island productions and places us among the best".
