La Cueva de los Verdes is a volcanic grotto with peculiarities that make it unique in the world. In the middle of the Malpaís de la Corona, it is one of the wonders hidden in the bowels of Lanzarote, endowed with a mysterious and special mythological character.
Although the total length of the grotto reaches 8 kilometers, the section adapted for visitors is one kilometer of superimposed galleries with vertical interconnections, and inside you can see galleries that reach fifty meters in height, with widths of up to fifteen meters. On the route you can enjoy tunnels and nooks with amazing vaults and interior lagoons.
When visiting the cave, you can also enjoy the history of this small Atlantic island. The routes that we can visit today were used as a refuge for the population against the Berber pirates of North Africa during the 16th and 17th centuries. It is said that La Cueva de los Verdes owes its name to the surname of a family that used the cave and kept their cattle in the surroundings.
Today it is one of the most appreciated attractions by travelers and scientists from all over the world. Recommending La Cueva de los Verdes is inviting our visitors to get to know the bowels of Lanzarote.
