World Colon Cancer Day

Hospiten Lanzarote activates a new campaign of free tests to detect colon cancer

The health group promotes the early detection of this type of cancer that, if diagnosed in time, can be cured in 90% of cases

March 24 2022 (08:05 WET)
World Colon Cancer Day 2022

The Hospiten Group is launching a new campaign of free tests, on the occasion of the celebration of World Colon Cancer Day, to raise awareness among the population of the incidence of this pathology and thus remember the importance of early detection to treat it.

According to specialists, nearly 90 percent of cases of colon and rectal cancer could be cured if they are detected in time in the stages prior to the advance of the disease. This tumor is the second most frequent among men and the second most common among women. As a general rule, there are usually no symptoms until the cancer is in an advanced stage, with the most common signs being a change in bowel habits, blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, anemia and abdominal pain.

Therefore, Hospiten Lanzarote organizes a prevention campaign in which information will be provided on how to prevent this type of cancer and in which the free performance of a fecal occult blood test is offered.

Thus, all people over 50 years of age - or 40 if they have a family history of cancer or colon polyps - interested in participating in this prevention campaign, may make an appointment before March 31, through an online appointment or the Hospiten app.

If the result is positive, users will be offered a free consultation with the Hospiten Digestive specialist.

This is an initiative with which Hospiten wants to remind the population of the importance of going to the doctor to undergo one of the two simple tests that exist to detect it early, colonoscopy and fecal occult blood test, whose performance depends on the age and medical history of each patient. In the event that the result of the fecal occult blood test is positive, a conventional colonoscopy is recommended.
