The works on the Costa Teguise football field, whose start was announced at the beginning of October, have not started. This has been confirmed to La Voz by sources from the City Council, who have indicated that the Consistory has made a request to the contractor to explain the reason for this delay.
The works were awarded in May to the company Joca Ingeniería y Construcciones S.A for 1,369,725 euros as the "most advantageous" offer among the 13 proposals submitted. And the fact is that the works initially went out to tender for 1,750,000 euros.
Initially, the City Council announced that the works were expected to begin before the end of the summer. However, it was not until the first week of October when the mayor, in a presentation of the project to the public, announced the start of the works, works that have an execution period of 12 months and that did not start, as confirmed now from the Consistory. Now, the City Council is waiting for the contractor to respond to its request and explain the reasons for the delay, a breach that could lead to the opening of a sanctioning file.
It should be remembered that the sports facility, located next to the Barranco del Hurón, behind the Hotel Beatriz, will house a football field, with stands with capacity for 350 seats, handball and basketball courts, as well as an athletics area. It will also have a building that will house weight rooms, cafeteria and terrace, and premises for local sports clubs.
