The expansion works of the port of Playa Blanca continue "at a good pace" and now, a few months before its completion, the work focuses on the "remodeling and reorganization of the fishing dock." The tasks that are being carried out in these weeks consist of the closure of the inner dock, the installation of new pontoons for the sports dock and the completion of the urbanization of the inner dock.

The closure of the inner dock consists of a concrete hammer dock "50 meters long", with capacity for the mooring of yachts or light passenger boats, up to 30 meters.

The shelter provided by the hammer will allow the installation of 125 new moorings on a pontoon in inland waters for fishing and recreational sports use, increasing from the current 145 to 280.

"This week the floating docks have been installed in the port, an important advance that shows how day by day these expansion works are coming to an end, providing fishermen, sailors, tourists and neighbors with a more comfortable and safe space," says the managing director of Puertos Canarios, Manuel Ortega.

The entity recalls that during the year 2021 the works in the new dock were completed, where the shipping companies Fred Olsen and Naviera Armas have been operating since the last quarter of the year, connecting the south of Lanzarote with the island of Fuerteventura daily. In addition, great progress was made in the urbanization of accesses and parking as well as in the new passenger terminal.

The works are being carried out by the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands with 85% financing from ERDF funds. Puertos Canarios estimates to finish the expansion works of the port throughout this year 2022.
