A total of 35,624 Canarian families will benefit this year from the thermal social bonus, aimed at alleviating energy poverty in vulnerable homes, as reported this Monday by the Regional Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children and Families.
The final resolution of this aid from the Autonomous Government has been published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) and, by virtue of it, 1,550,398.73 euros are allocated to cover part of the energy expenses of these families in the call corresponding to 2023.
The thermal social bonus is a complementary aid to the electricity social bonus, which benefits 45,459 people in the archipelago, according to updated data from the Ministry for Ecological Transition as of June 30, 2025.
This financial support, managed by the General Directorate of Social Services and Immigration, is intended to cover costs associated with the supply of energy for thermal uses in the home, and does not require prior application by the citizen, since the electricity companies annually send the Government the information of the holders of the electricity bonus, which allows the list of beneficiaries of the thermal bonus to be drawn up.
As detailed by the general director of Social Services and Immigration, Elisabeth Santana, the amounts per family range "between 25 and 124 euros, depending on the climatic zone of residence", so that "it is higher for people residing in those areas with colder climatic conditions", although in cases of severe vulnerability, "the amount of aid is increased by 60%, placing the minimum amount for this group at 40 euros".
The deadline to correct errors or waive the aid will remain open until September 1 and can be done both at the electronic headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands and in the authorized registration offices.
People who appear in the resolution with the current account section blank must provide the bank account number where they wish to receive the deposit, accompanying a document proving their ownership, before which the Ministry has recalled that the account holder must coincide with the beneficiary of the bonus in order to make the payment correctly.
In addition, if the bank details have changed or are incorrect, they must also submit the corresponding form for modification.
