The company Clever, which performs a large part of the ground service (handling) at Lanzarote airport, presented an employment regulation file (ERE) last week for the staff of the Guacimeta airport. The file does not foresee dismissals, but it implies the reduction of the working day and the salary for all the workers.
The workers' assembly agrees that the ERE does not entail dismissals but rejects it and proposes a negotiation. In the case of workers who operate full time, the file would mean going from 40 to 20 hours per week. In other cases, the working day is reduced between 25 and 35 percent, according to union sources. The company's working hours at the airport would be reduced by almost half.
The company also proposes, according to the same sources, an absolute availability of shifts from Monday to Sunday, depending on the necessary workload. The approximately 140 workers intend to reach a "fairer and less abusive" agreement and consider that the adjustment is not in line with the loss of flights and workload, in addition to the fact that it will affect the quality of the service provided to users.
Clever is a handling company that is owned by the ACS Group and Iberia. Among the clients of this company are airlines or tour operators such as Air Europa, Tui Thompson, Aer Lingus and Monarch.
