The CEO of the Society for the Promotion of Foreign Affairs of Lanzarote (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote), Héctor Fernández, welcomed Hans Soderholm, captain of the luxury cruise 'World Voyager' of the Portuguese company Mystic Cruises, consigned by Hamilton & Cía, to the cruise ship dock in Arrecife on Tuesday. It was arriving to the island for the first time with 97 crew members and 74 passengers, most of them of German nationality.
According to the Cabildo, it is a vessel "equipped with state-of-the-art technology, capable of accommodating up to 200 passengers and fully ecological, which sails at a maximum speed of 25 knots in order to minimize pollution, produces its own drinking water from reverse osmosis processes and transforms the waste it generates into ashes." The cruise, they point out, "has a rigorous daily health protocol, while offering luxury services for the most demanding passengers."
The island's Councillor for Tourism Promotion, Ángel Vázquez, pointed out that "the fact that we are now practically the only place in Europe where cruises have been able to resume shows that we are perceived as a reliable destination." The councillor adds that "the arrival in Lanzarote of this type of luxury vessels that are committed to sustainability, with high-end passengers, who are looking for safe destinations and value quality and differentiated experiences, is undoubtedly very good news as it is part of our Lanzarote Premium strategy and perfectly in tune with our attributes as an island."
Due to the restrictions derived from Covid-19, the act of handing over the traditional commemorative metope was attended by the representative of the island's Promotion Body, Héctor Fernández; the director of the Port of Arrecife, Aitor Galán, and the representative of the consignee Hamilton & Cía in Lanzarote, Amabilia Guerra.
Coming from Puerto del Rosario, this luxurious ship, 126 meters long, which even has a small helipad for evacuation cases, arrived this morning at the Arrecife Cruise Dock, and is scheduled to return to Lanzarote in May. The ship, which left for the Canary Islands on April 6 from Viana do Castelo (Portugal), is touring all the islands and will end the voyage on the 21st of next month in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
