The situation of the healthcare system has become the main problem for the people of Lanzarote, according to the Socio-barometer of the Canary Islands of July, a study carried out semi-annually by the National University of Distance Education (UNED).

An issue that was already announced by the latest Survey of Island Issues of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, where it was found that the people of Lanzarote want more public investment in healthcare.

For the first time, the quality of healthcare leads the list of concerns of island citizens in the UNED study with 31.9%, almost 8 points more than in the previous survey of late 2022. Those surveyed had to choose three from more than 20 issues.

In second place, the people of Lanzarote chose the economic crisis with 23.4%, and 22.2% for the unemployment situation. 6 months ago, the economic crisis and unemployment were above the healthcare system among the concerns of the people of Lanzarote.

At the Canary Islands level, something similar has happened, healthcare also occupies the first place and has surpassed the economic crisis, unemployment and also inflation. Concern for the healthcare system has increased in all the islands. In Tenerife, the increase has been almost 20 percentage points.

This trend, valued under a total of 3,195 telephone interviews in the scope of the Autonomous Community, is especially relevant in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and El Hierro, although it occupies the first place among the problems that require the most urgent solution in all the islands except in La Gomera, where the economic crisis continues to occupy the first place.
