The expansion works of the port of Playa Blanca, which are being carried out by the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands with 85% financing from ERDF funds, continue at a good pace and now, a few months before its completion, the work focuses on the construction of the hammerhead breakwater in the fishing dock.

This structure is made up of concrete boxes and aims to reduce waves in the dock, a construction that in turn allows boats to dock on its inner face.

At the same time, urbanization and remodeling tasks are being carried out in the green areas and other spaces such as the parking lot or the maritime station. Likewise, the installation of the new pontoons for the sports dock is being completed.

“The construction of the hammerhead breakwater is progressing very well, it is already 100% functional. Currently, work continues on this work, which needs to have the coping beam concreted for its completion,” says the managing director of Puertos Canarios, Manuel Ortega.

The hammerhead breakwater provides a concrete shelter 50 meters long that protects the inner dock and prevents the entry of large ships. In addition, this work offers security and reduces the agitation of the sea in the area of boats intended for sport fishing and recreation in the port.
