The Official College of Economists of Las Palmas launches the third edition of the Audiovisual Communication Contest on Financial Education, aimed at high school and intermediate vocational training students from Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, who may submit their works until December 16 with the theme 'Sustainable Finance'.
This edition of the contest has the collaboration of the councils of the three islands, and will be developed in a first provincial phase, with one team classified by the island of Lanzarote and another from Fuerteventura, and three teams from Gran Canaria. Of these five finalists, one of them will advance to the national phase that will take place in February, representing the College of Economists of Las Palmas.
Each team must be formed by between four and six students and the video they submit must have a maximum duration of four minutes, recorded in horizontal format and with a minimum quality of HD 720p.
The objective is to "bring the reality of the economic and business environment closer to the students and promote the acquisition of skills linked to teamwork, the search for information and the way of presenting it, which entails a transversal work for the students who, in addition to acquiring knowledge, learn vital tools that go beyond regulated education".
The member of Pre-association and Young Economists of the College of Economists of Las Palmas, Adonay Viera Romero, assures that "financial education in schools is vital, because the data show that people who have basic financial knowledge save more, incur less debt and are more aware of responsible consumption, skills that must be acquired in school and that will be vital in adulthood".
To facilitate participation, those responsible for the College of Economists of Las Palmas are holding meetings in schools that wish to participate, informing both about the contest and about sustainable finance.
The winning team of the provincial phase will obtain a prize of 1,000 euros, 400 euros will be raffled among all the participants; another 400 euros will be allocated to the video with more views on YouTube. Each professor involved in the development of the videos of the five provincial finalists will receive a prize of 500 euros; and each school of the five finalists will also receive 500 euros. The amounts of the prizes will be delivered in gift vouchers, under the premise of carrying out responsible consumption.
This activity is part of the Financial Education Plan of the Bank of Spain and the National Securities Market Commission, of which the General Council of Economists of Spain is a collaborator, which instituted the Day of Financial Education in 2015 and is celebrated in October. The objective is to raise awareness of the importance of being financially trained.
