The wines of the Canary Islands are showing all their potential in one of the most prestigious trade fairs on the national and international scene, the Barcelona Wine Week (BWW), which is being held in Montjuïc, in the city of Barcelona. The wineries El Grifo SA, Los Bermejos, Vulcano de Lanzarote and La Geria participate from the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Lanzarote.

This fair is an opportunity for Canarian companies to establish commercial contacts directly with importers, distributors or wholesalers. More than 20,000 international professionals from 79 countries considered strategic by the sector attend the show, including the United States, Germany, China, Canada, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Russia, Denmark, Colombia and the Netherlands, among others. The BWW will bring together more than 700 wineries in a program with fifty presentations, round tables and guided tastings by nearly 90 experts, sommeliers and producers.

Bodegas El Lomo (Tenerife) and Bodega Linaje del Pago (Tenerife) are attending from the PDO Islas Canarias, while Bodegas Atlante is attending from the PDO Valle de La Orotava. Bodega Los Loros participates from the PDO Valle de Güímar, and Bodega Loher does so from the PDO Tacoronte-Acentejo; Bettina Charlotte Burgmann (Winery Burgmann Tenerife) and Bodegas Insulares de Tenerife.

The Canary Islands Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, has facilitated the presence of the wineries represented at the Canary Islands stand, from the organization and coordination, to the registration, design and assembly of the infrastructure, in addition to assuming all the costs derived from the presence of the wineries at the fair. Participation in this show is part of the Ministry's strategy to promote and promote the wines of the archipelago to improve their positioning in the market.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alicia Vanoostende, who visited the Canary Islands stand together with the director of the ICCA, Basilio Pérez, valued “the importance of publicizing the potential of Canarian wines, for their quality, uniqueness and variety, with unique characteristics in the world that differentiate us and recognize us beyond the insular market.”

In this sense, she indicated that from the regional government “we are working hand in hand with the wineries to promote their products, support them and enable their presence in showcases of such importance as the Barcelona Wine Week, because the wine sector is strategic in the economy of the islands.”
