The sale of used cars in January has fallen by 3.16% in the Canary Islands, with a total of 5,617 units transferred in the archipelago, according to the National Association of Vehicle Merchants (Ancove). In the national market, the figure rose by 0.43%.

Las Palmas was the province with the best performance compared to the same month of 2021, with sales of 3,003 cars and a decrease of 0.70%. On the other hand, Santa Cruz de Tenerife registered a decrease of 7.24% and 2,614 units transferred.

Last January, 127,152 second-hand cars were sold in Spain, which represents a slight increase of 0.43% compared to the same month of 2021, when transfers already suffered a collapse of 26.5%, reaching figures lower than 2017.

Forecasts for the coming year

The "bad start to the year" has led Ancove to "rethink" the forecasts it considered at the end of last year. Thus, the association believes that if the rates marked in the first month of the year are maintained, sales will remain around 2% below those of 2021 and will again be below two million in Spain (1.95) of used cars in the year.

"January leaves a worrying panorama, as sales barely rise half a point compared to the same month of 2021, which was placed at minimum figures. If transfers do not rebound in the coming months, it is very possible that fewer used cars will be sold this year than last year," says Elías Iglesias, president of Ancove.
