The Ministry of Agriculture of the Government of the Canary Islands has announced, through the Canary Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), the subsidies for the year 2024 for 'Organic Agriculture, agro-environmental management commitments in organic agriculture' provided for in the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAPSP) 2023-2027.
This intervention has a budget of 442,000 euros for the year 2024 and aims to finance the adoption of organic production methodologies that guarantee sustainable agriculture and livestock farming in the long term, as well as the protection of natural resources.
This line of aid is co-financed by European funds by 80%, by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, through the budgets of the ICCA, by 14% and, finally, by the Ministry by 6%.
Eligible for subsidies will be the commitments to adopt or maintain the practices and methods of organic agriculture defined in the European Union Regulation on the production and labeling of these products, as well as the specific technical standards relating to them.
Both in maintenance and in conversion to organic agriculture, this line of aid covers rainfed and irrigated herbaceous crops, nuts, pome and stone fruits, citrus fruits, subtropical fruits, bananas, outdoor and greenhouse vegetables, vines, tomatoes and organic livestock farming.
To access these subsidies, it is necessary to be registered as an organic operator in the file of organic production operators of the Canary Islands, as well as in the Register of Agricultural Holdings of the Canary Islands (REAC), in the General Register of Agricultural Production (REGEPA), or in the Register of Livestock Holdings of the Canary Islands (REGA), as appropriate.
Likewise, among other requirements included in the call for applications, beneficiaries may not be subject to any of the prohibitions included in the General Law on Subsidies and undertake to maintain ownership and agricultural activity of the holding for a minimum of five years from the date of receipt of the last subsidy.
The actions may be subsidized for a period of five consecutive years counted from the first granting of the aid, provided that the applicants comply with the commitments required and reiterate the application for subsidy for the same action and in the same location object of support.
Applications must be submitted electronically in accordance with the standard models of the electronic headquarters until September 28. For more information, please consult the text of the resolution published in the Gazette Official of the Canary Islands (BOC).
