The General Directorate of Diversity attached to the Ministry of Social Welfare, has published in the BOC the call for subsidies, in a competitive regime, destined to the execution of projects for planning and promotion of LGBTIQ+ diversity in the Canary Islands during 2024.
The General Director of Diversity, Celso Mendoza, explains that with this call "we seek to boost the actions carried out by associations and federations and that are aimed both at preventing Lgtbiphobia in the different areas of life and at assisting and guiding families and potential victims of hate crimes".
"The Canary Islands is a modern, inclusive community, a pioneer in the State in terms of the approval of laws protecting the group, but there are still people who do not respect diversity, fear what is different and their form of expression is physical attack, humiliation, harassment... All this forces us to continue working every day, educating, ensuring to maintain an inclusive and respectful environment for all people, regardless of their gender identity or expression".
As detailed in the call published, and detailed in the general bases, the actions may be framed in one of the five lines of support for LGBTIQ+ diversity: the first, aimed at the care of victims of harassment, discrimination, hate crimes and other types of violence, based on sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression and sexual characteristics, as well as the realization of actions aimed at promoting the health of the group, with a total credit amounting to the amount of 63,000 euros.
The prevention of LGBTIQ+phobia, in which training, informative, visibility, reflection, awareness and impact actions can be presented in the islands, especially in the non-capital islands, with a total credit amounting to the amount of 85,000 euros.
The third line of support is aimed at the care of LGBTIQ+ families, and has a total credit of 70,000 euros; a fourth line is aimed at the eradication of discrimination in educational settings, for which 70,000 euros will be allocated; and a final line is focused on dissemination activities, training and support for LGBTIQ+ diversity with the aim of generating materials and/or spaces or activities for training and awareness on diversity, which will have 35,000 euros.
The amount of the subsidy requested per project may not be less than 5,000 euros, and the maximum amount of the subsidy to be granted may be up to 100% of the budget accepted by the Administration.
Interested entities have until June 17 to submit the application accompanied by the documentation required in the fifth base of the regulatory bases, through the General Electronic Registry of the Unique Electronic Headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands, addressed to the General Directorate of Diversity.
