The Minister responsible for Industry, Ariagona González, says that Lanzarote "has enough land for the consolidation of existing companies and the installation of new ones in different areas such as renewable energy, recycling or R&D&I".
And, according to the Cabildo, according to the data from the Study of Industrial Areas, the island currently has 3,601,941 square meters of industrial area, with the active surface being 1,751,016 square meters and the area available for the development of the areas being 1,850,925.
The update of the study clarifies that "the conception of the industrial area has been modified with respect to the previous idea of attending almost exclusively to its functionality", it is pointed out from the Cabildo, from where it is indicated that, at present, "spatial quality and environmental integration in the environment are necessary conditions for its optimal functioning".
"This is the diagnosis of industrial land carried out in 2008 with the aim of promoting these areas that are so necessary for the development of commercial activity in Lanzarote. The island has a special singularity due to its natural values and the power of its landscape, which is why it is considered a Biosphere Reserve. This requires reinforcing the importance of articulating strategies for improvement and environmental integration and spatial updating for the different activities that take place on its land, among which industry needs to be addressed in a unique way", said the Minister.
From the Cabildo it is pointed out that the whole of the land destined for industrial use in Lanzarote corresponds to the surroundings of Arrecife and the airport (San Bartolomé), to which others are added, of lesser entity, linked to the tourist areas (Yaiza) or complementary to agricultural activities (Teguise).
