The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa will lead the sustainability and zero emissions cluster 'Canary Islands Net Zero' of the World Economic Forum. Its president, José Valle, signed this commitment last November in New York with Alexandre Crueger, director of Industrial Clusters and Strategic Partnerships at the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The cluster will be integrated into the newly created Sustainability Commission of the Chamber of Commerce. This is a project sponsored by Luis Alvarado, climate advisor of the WEF, and Marcos Cohen of PwC, both mediators of the agreement and members of the commission established on December 23.

Lanzarote and the Canary Islands will be a tourist laboratory

This is how Lanzarote becomes part of the industrial cluster of sustainability and zero emissions of the World Economic Forum, known for the summit of heads of state and CEOs from around the world in Davos, Switzerland. In Spain, only the Basque Country belongs to this global network of thirteen clusters. Lanzarote, representing the Canary Islands, becomes the second place in the State to be linked to this small group where they work to achieve zero emissions, green technology, and sustainability innovation applied to tourism.

Championing sustainable tourism on the planet

Belonging to this cluster means being part of the network of pioneering territories whose mission is to reflect on and build the foundations of a new world economy and a sustainable zero-emission industrial fabric. In this way, we work to create an ecosystem in which companies and institutions share lessons, knowledge, risks, and innovation to advance the transition more efficiently, faster, and on a larger scale. In addition, the network has the advice of leading specialists and global institutions in the field to design roadmaps capable of attracting funding and public and private support.

Lanzarote thus becomes the pioneering island in tourism innovation and sustainability. "An opportunity for the entire ecosystem of Canary Island companies and their public institutions to become a laboratory for the new global movement of the World Economic Forum. The Canary Islands is thus opting to become the first tourist and industrial destination of new zero-emission technology in Spain, Europe, and one of the first in the world," they conclude from the Chamber.
