Lanzarote has developed this week an institutional and commercial mission in Cantabria with the aim of consolidating strategic relations between both territories and taking advantage of the potential of the new direct air route operated by Binter between Lanzarote and Santander.

The delegation, headed by the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, together with the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, has maintained an intense agenda of institutional and business meetings during April 6 and 7 in Santander.

In this context, the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, has highlighted that “this mission is not just a meeting agenda, it is a clear commitment to position Lanzarote on the map of major national alliances, generating real opportunities for our economy and our business fabric”.

Likewise, he/she highlighted that “the new connectivity with Santander allows us to advance in a more balanced development model, where tourism, business, and innovation go hand in hand to build a more competitive and sustainable destination”.

For his part, the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, has pointed out that “we are facing a strategic opportunity to activate bidirectional flows between two highly complementary destinations, with the capacity to generate joint products and attract a higher-value visitor.”

Fernández added that “the work developed in this mission lays the groundwork for future co-marketing actions, development of shared tourism experiences and business collaboration in key sectors such as sports tourism, gastronomy or the blue economy”.

Likewise, José Valle, as president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa considers, that “the new connection between Santander and Lanzarote represents a clear opportunity to strengthen economic and business relations between both territories. This mission has allowed us to identify synergies and open new avenues of collaboration in strategic sectors. From the Chamber we will continue working to transform this connectivity into real opportunities for our companies”.

This action is part of the diversification and connectivity strategy qualified for the destination, "taking advantage of a key milestone such as the launch of this direct connection, which opens new opportunities for tourist, economic, and commercial collaboration between both regions".

During the first institutional day, the delegation held meetings with the Government of Cantabria, the City Council of Santander and the Chamber of Commerce of Cantabria, focused on boosting synergies in joint tourism promotion, business development and the creation of a stable collaboration framework between both territories.

Likewise, opportunities linked to strategic sectors such as sustainable tourism, gastronomy, the blue economy, innovation, or sports tourism were addressed, especially in areas such as golf and nautical.

On Tuesday, the agenda continued with sector-specific meetings, including meetings with the Cantabrian Golf Federation and officials from the Tourism area of the Government of Cantabria, with the aim of identifying concrete opportunities for cooperation and the generation of joint tourism products.

The mission responds to a shared vision between Lanzarote and Cantabria as complementary destinations, capable of generating bidirectional flows of visitors: the Cantabrian market towards Lanzarote in winter season, and the Canarian market towards the peninsular north during the summer.

In this regard, the new air connectivity is positioned as a key element to advance in de-seasonalization, market diversification, and the positioning of both destinations in segments of higher added value.
