April closed at the Lanzarote airport as the best month of the year in terms of passenger numbers, according to Aena figures collected by the Cabildo Data Center. However, only 97,910 travelers were received by the Lanzarote aerodrome, a figure far from those before the pandemic and even those registered last year after confinement.
Compared to March of this year, however, passenger traffic at the Lanzarote airport increased by 15.2%, since then the number of travelers was 84,980. A very similar figure was recorded in January, with 84,735 passengers, while in February it decreased to 54,278.
In comparison with April of last year, the increase is 3,016%. And, at that time, the country was in full confinement and the Lanzarote aerodrome only received 3,142 passengers, being the worst figure recorded during the pandemic together with the month of May, where 8,288 were registered.
After the start of the de-escalation, the movement of passengers increased, being 40,966 in June, 194,455 in July and 277,430 in August. Subsequently, in the months of September, October and December, more than 160,000 passengers were exceeded, while in November 144,876 were registered.
However, after the arrival of 2021, with the confinements decreed in countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany and the entry of Lanzarote into level 4 of health alert, in which it remained from the end of January to March 1, the movement of passengers was reduced to less than 100,000. A figure that has not yet been exceeded, although the statistics for the month of April reflect an increase in passenger traffic.
In the accumulated of the year, there have been 321,903 travelers who have received the Lanzarote airport, 76.6% less than in the same period of 2020.
A monthly growth of foreign passengers of 30%
Of the 97,910 travelers received by the Lanzarote airport last month, only 8,517 were foreigners. A figure that, however, represents an increase of 30% compared to the previous month, since then there were only 6,536.
In this regard, April has also been the best month of the year in terms of international passengers, since in January and February the figures that were registered were lower, specifically 7,534 and 6,975 travelers respectively.
In the first four months of 2021, there have been 29,562 foreign passengers who have received the Lanzarote aerodrome, 93.5% less than last year.
