The General Corps of the Canary Police, through the Environmental Group (GRUMA), and the Agents of Fisheries Inspection, under the General Directorate of Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, have launched a joint surveillance and control campaign aimed at ensuring the sustainability of fisheries resources and combating poaching in this sector.
The activity under surveillance covers different areas such as the investigation of illegal practices in fishing, shellfish harvesting and marketing of fishery products.
The main purpose of these actions is to enforce biological aspects such as minimum sizes and closed seasons for certain species, as well as other health and hygiene aspects related to marketing and consumption, controlling the traceability and legal origin of the products.
The programming of the services is being carried out jointly between the General Corps of the Canary Police and the Corps of Fisheries Inspection Agents, taking into account the availability of personal and material resources of both, as well as other external factors such as meteorological factors, carrying out at least one joint service per week throughout the Canary territory.
