AENA awards this Tuesday the largest ground handling services tender ever launched in its history for the 43 airports it manages.

To handle the Lanzarote Airport for the next seven years, ten offers from ten different companies have been submitted: Acciona; Alyzia; Aviapartner; Groundforce; Groupe Europe Handling; Iberia in cooperation with Clece and Lirecan; Menzies; Swissport; WFS; and Servicio Aéreo Global de Handing.

César Manrique will have two operators among the ten companies competing.

Among the novelties of the tender, Aena has added sustainability criteria that the new handling agents must meet. Among them, meeting a minimum percentage of sustainable vehicles and equipment, which will increase annually from the current 23% to 78% in 2030.

The tender also includes as a novelty the figure of the handling incident coordinator, who will have to respond in real time to problems reported by passengers such as late baggage deliveries, loss or damage, among others.

Handling services generate around 22,000 jobs in Spain according to the Association of Ground Handling Services Companies at Airports (ASEATA).
